This article is an adapted keynote speech delivered in June 2019 in London at the 7th ICC YAF Global Conference on the significance of diversity, legitimacy and innovation and the impact thereof on the future of international arbitration. The notion of diversity has constantly evolved over decades and generations, moving from an evil stigma to an altruistic concept. Most recently, the notion of diversity appended its positive connotation depicting inclusivity, fairness and growth. In the specific context of international arbitration, diversity not only brings inclusivity, sustainable development and legitimacy to a system that is increasingly under scrutiny, but it also creates opportunities for innovation and tolerance within the global arbitration sphere.
