Claimant is an American corporation and Respondent is a French corporation. Both the Claimant and the Respondent are large companies with extensive interests in the chemical industry.

The dispute arises out of a Joint Research Agreement (JRC) entered into between the Claimant and the Respondent in December 1987.

La demanderesse est une société américaine et la défenderesse une société française. Les parties sont toutes deux de grandes entreprises ayant d'importants intérêts dans l'industrie chimique.

Le litige ayant donné lieu au présent arbitrage est né d'un accord de recherche conjointe (ARC) conclu entre la demanderesse et la défenderesse et entré en vigueur en décembre 1987.
