Shipping marks on 3 lines or 1 line

Shipping Marks with an ancient tradition Shipping marks have a long history and some countries still preserve that history where it is doubtful that it serves any useful purpose. By this I mean that certain geometric shapes signify particular ports and the wording is often written inside or outside ...

Charges on B/E

Jeremy,

would you ignore it on the basis of a language other than that of the LC being used, or on some other basis ?

Late presentation

Why look for a complicated resolution to this when the best way is also the simplest ? I have raised this issue at previous Banking Commission meetings where I suggested that the new rules should require the nominated bank to state the date of receipt of the docs. I agree with Jeremy that all presen...

Charges on B/E

I have seen a clause added to a B/E from France as follows : "FRAIS LOCAUX A LA CHARGE DU TIRE" This was part of a LC presentation in which all charges were on Benef. Fortunately no local charges applied, but I am curious what the position would have been if there were. In different contex...

Pickup date and sign on the courier receipt

Lisa, I suspect that scanning the bar code is the electronic equivalent of a signature to imply receipt. I would question any document claiming to be a receipt which did not evidence receipt of goods/documents. Signature by the courier I would accept as evidence of receipt, but it is debatable wheth...

Bank Contract Registration Certificate

Monique,

as far as I know, only imports below a certain (low) value are permitted on a CAD basis in Pakistan. Others must be by LC. The previous comment about registration apply to both LC and CAD.

COLLECTION AGENTS

Peter,

in these cases, I feel compelled to respond to both, quoting both references, but I try to resolve future difficulties by asking the presenter to advise to whom such messages should be sent and to clarify this in their letters of presentation.

Pickup date and sign on the courier receipt

Jeremy, your memory must be better than mine. I don't recall using "legerdemain", but if I did, surely what you suggest here is "leger de mot". In any case, I deny playing with words. Documents evidencing receipt or despatch of goods need not refer exclusively to chargeable goods...

Pickup date and sign on the courier receipt

Lisa, I agree with you that I do not take the personal views of participants here as necessarily representative of the trading community in general. DC-PRO is good for exploring where such differences lie in interpretation and sometimes finding a consensus. Even when such consensus is not found, it ...

Pickup date and sign on the courier receipt

Jeremy, welcome back ! As you say, art. 29 b deals with documentation evidencing receipt of goods for delivery. Couriers deliver goods of a large variety, including documents. These are sometimes differentiated by using different designs of AWB's, but not usually. In this case the goods in question ...
