Witnessed By

A letter of credit contains as integral part a pre-printed certificate which has to be filled out with each partial shipment. The certificate contains amongst others the following fields:
witnessed by:...date:...
witnessed by: ...date:...
date: ...signed by:...

Would you expect a signature in the field "witnessed by" or would it be sufficient to state just a name?

I am not a legal expert however, in a general sense, a witness would watch someone sign the original document, and then sign it yourself to state that you have watched/witnessed them.
