Would a Charter Party BL signed "xyz company for and on behalf of the Master" be acceptable under the UCP or must the signature specifically state the words "as agent"
Appreciate any comments.
Thanks John Sheehan

I’m afraid “for and on behalf” is not sufficient to evidence that XYZ Company is an agent of the master. To comply with UCP, XYZ Company needs to indicate its capacity as agent.

Hi John,
I do not believe the words "as agent" need not be expressly used...
the following is extracted from ICC Opinion R563:
When the document is signed by an agent for (or 'on behalf of')
the Master, the agent must be named and must quote the name of the Master for (or 'on behalf of')
whom he is signing, e.g. BC Co. Ltd as agent for (or 'on behalf of') John Doe, Master, (signature)."
