BL number

Post by jsheehan » Fri Jan 21, 2011 12:00 am

Has anyone heard of the absence of a (BL) number on the BL being a discrepancy?

I've been told by a major US bank that it is.

Thanks for your comments.

A bizarre assertion indeed. I certainly think it is complete nonsense.

Can you ask the bank to explain according to what the absence of B/L no. on the B/L is a discrepancy?
UCP600 and ISBP are silent about it,
I have never seen an ICC opinion about it.
I would not take it up as a discrepancy.

Really nonsense. I understand that BL number could help to trace the BL but to consider it as a discrepancy while checking the docs is a little bit unreasonable.

In 38 years of examining documents in the USA I have never seen a real B/L without a number. I have seen several fraudulent ones.

Fraud is a separate issue. I'm certain there have been fraudulent Bs/L both with or without a number. However, I don't think the absence of a number on the BL makes it a discrepancy.
