O instead of 0

Post by asamaha » Mon Aug 19, 2013 1:00 am

Dear all,

All documents show the L/C number as required in the L/C, except the invoice where the "0" (zero) is replaced by the letter "O" for ex. ILCO123ABC instead of ILC0123ABC.

Would you consider this as an obvious typing error that should be accepted by banks, since the zero on the keyboard is situated next to the letter O.

Thanks and Regards

I would reject entirely the view that it is possible to distinguish between the number and the letter by their form / shape. (Furthermore, in British English at least, we often say the letter 'o' in numbers, such as telephone numbers.) The only way the number and the letter can be distinguished is by the context in which they are found (and sometimes even this does not make it clear). Thus, I am of the view that there is not any basis to consider the credit number as not having been correctly written.

Further, it would be unethical to reject a presentation for this reason.
