Is a house BL acceptable when the LC calls for a marine BL?

UCP says that "banks will, unless otherwise stipulated in the credit, accept a document, however named, which" .... complies with the credit and UCP 500.

So the presentation of a "House Bill of Lading" would be acceptable provided that, in all "other" regards, it complies with the credit and UCP.

There may not be enough information here to fully answer the question. For example, the house B/L may not be acceptable if the L/C called for a negotiable B/L.

Unless the LC prohibits house BL, a house BL issued by a freight forwarder is acceptable if the forwarder signs as the carrier (whether as a contractual or as an actual carrier). There is nothing to do with negotiability of the BL. A house BL and a marine/ocean port-to-port BL can both be made negotiable. By "house" BL we mean those issued by a freight forwarder, the contractual carrier rather than the actual carrier, like a liner company.
