Charter party bill of lading

Post by EmilijaSertic » Mon Nov 12, 2001 12:00 am

First of all,hello to everyone!
As a not very experienced person in charter party bills of lading (saw it for the first time couple of days ago) I wonder if there is anyone willing to explain the main difference between charter party and ocean b/l and the reason why UCP 500 prohibits them?
Thank you very much

Dear Mr Lee,
I have browsed through your web site but haven't found answer to my question. Can you be more specific when saying that answer could be found on your web site? Or could you be so kind and answer it in few sentences?
Thanx a lot

UCP does not prohibit charter party B/L, and in fact Article 25 specifically covers such bills.

One of the main differences between standard ocean B/L and charter party B/L is that a charter party B/L is very much a bespoke document, determined by contractual agreement detailed in the charter party. Thus one can see that the UCP could not possibly cover all aspects of bills of lading issued in relation to such charter parties.
