Bill Of Lading with 2 Loading Ports
Has anyone seen a B/L with 2 loading ports, both of which are within the country specified within the l/c. There is only one on board notation and B/l was issued at the first port of loading shown on the B/L. The on board notation just shows the word ON BOARD and the date.

I have come across a few. If the B/L evidences that shipment has been effected from two ports. One would consider that the shipment is complete only when the goods are loaded at the second port. My view would be that B/L should show the on board dates per both the ports. The last date would then be considered as the date of shipment. If the L/C also calls for an insurance document the first on board date would be the operative date.
(I have assumed that there is only one vessel involved)

Hi Roland and Hariram,
There can be two dated on board notations but the earlier on board date, not the last on board date, would be taken as the date of shipment. Please refer to ICC Official Opinion R459-200/01. Hoping this may help clarify the point.

Hi
In my opinion, the date which is to be considered is when the shipment is complete.
If a partial load was made at the first port, then the rest of the goods were loaded at the second port, then I would consider that shipment was made on the date when goods were totally shipped, i.e. on second port's on board notation.
If however transhipment of goods loaded in totality at first port, then transhipped at second port, the opinion given in R459 would apply, i.e. first port's on board notation
