Original courier receipt

Can I get some opinion's in regards to the following.

We have a customer who always wants an "Original courier receipt" (Copies of dox's going to the customer) When we receive documents for examination, some people pick up the discpreancy that a copy of courier receipt presented i/o original. I myself will not call this as a discrepancy, since the original receipt is goes with the shipping package. Can I have a some thoughts on this matter.

An original is not a copy. In the practice however, courier's company generally release to the sender a proof marked "sender's copy". We would not open a D/C knowing already that a discrepancy may be raised.

Surely all that matters is that the document presented meets the requirements of an ‘original’ as laid down by sub-Art 20b and as ‘clarified’ by the ICC Banking Commission Policy Statement, document 470/871(Rev), titled “The determination of an “Original” document in the context of UCP sub-Article 20(b)”? Therefore that the document presented is not the ‘top copy’ or that the ‘top copy’ has gone with the goods is, of itself, immaterial?

No doubt Mike you'll let us know if our 'thoughts' are of any help.

Dear Mike,

The carbonised "copy" of Courier Receipt is "original" as long as it is on Courier's "original" stationery and as such there would be no discrepancy here even though the first "original" is accompanying the documents.
