Sorry, but I believe you have misunderstood PP4. To me it is quite clear that it is saying that ‘on behalf of’ is an alternative to ‘as agent for’ and if you look at all the examples -under 3b & 4- given they state ‘as agent for (OR ‘on behalf of’)’ [my emphasis]. In other words, to me, PP4 is saying the two expressions are synonymous where a party OTHER THAN THE CARRIER is signing. However, if I understand Albert’s example correctly, the carrier is signing and -if so- PP4 is irrelevant.

Dear Pradeep,

I think I will just get back to my lego bricks … no – actually I do agree with Jeremy that “on behalf of” is just as good as “as agent”.
(From the opening question however I was really in doubt whether or not it was the carrier who was signing)
