Hello All,
Have 2 questions pertaining to transhipments.
a. Is there a difference in "transhipment" between Multimodal transportation and shipment on road/rail/inlandwaterways. In case of multimodal transportation by their very nature transhipment will occur & also art. 19(b) of UCP 600 defines "....unloading from one means and reloading to another means of conveyance(whether or not in different modes of transport),,,,," and as per art 24(b) of UCP 600 as "...unloading from one means of conveyance and reloading to another means of conveyance, within the same mode of transport...."
B. Under what scenarios can transhipment be prohibited under multimodal transportation.
Thanks for your time and assistance.
Regards/Thanks,
Karthik

Transhipment
A documents of transport multimodal as per art. 19 of UCP will always be subject to a transhipment so I do not see how it would be possible to prohibit transhipment. UNCTAD/ICC Rules for Multimodal Transport documents state that "they are incorporated into a contract of carriage irrespective of whether there is a unimodal or a multimodal transport contract involving one or several modes of transport..." but art. 2.6 states that a MTD means a document evidencing a multimodal transport contract.
