B/L show both pre carriage by vessel named X and Ocean vessel named Y.
Is it neccessary that the on board notation show the named vessel (X or Y) on which the goods were loaded ?

In any case – the answer would most likely be “yes – the on board notation must show the name of the vessel”.

UCP 600 sub-article 20(a)(ii) requires that goods must be shipped on board “a named vessel” – and 20(a)(iii) says that it must be from the LC port of loading; so in any case: there must be no doubt on which vessel the goods have been shipped in the port required by the LC.

Also – if the “pre carriage” vessel have departed from a place of receipt different from the LC port of loading – then the name of the vessel would also be required in the on-board notation (as per UCP 500 sub-article 23(a)(ii)) …

If you provide a bit more information – e.g. on LC requirements (like: Which document? From? To?) – and the ports/places mentioned in the bill of lading – you may get a more precise answer.
