Early Presentation

Post by TracyH » Tue Jun 18, 2013 1:00 am

This has stirred a debate among our team.
Field 48 of l/c states '21 days after shipment but in any event within the validity of the l/c'
.
Discrepancy has been noted - Early presentation.
.
I do not agree with this on the basis that field 48 is a defined SWIFT field which identifies this as the period of time after shipment within which the documents may be presented. Field 47 does not contain any special conditions in relation to the presentation period.

Any comments anyone??

Tracy,

I am forced to infer that someone has interpreted period for presentation '21 days after shipment but in any event within the validity of the l/c' as meaning that documents must be presented exactly 21 days after shipment. If so, this leaves me stupefied for reasons of (lack of) basic common sense and elementary knowledge of UCP600. Suffice it to say you are wholly correct, the operative word being ‘within’.

Regards, JS
