shipped on board

It simply depends on the design of the B/L:-

1-If it is designed for port to port shipment only , it would most probably state at the bottom write hand corner of the B/L the following pre-printed sentenc :--
" Shipped , in appearent good order and condition, on board the vessle".
In this case the date of issuance of the B/L will be deemed to be the date of shipment, after making sure that there is no "On Board Notation" is stated in the B/L.

2- If the B/L is designed for more than one sort of shipment ( for example states :"For Port to Port shipment or multi-modal shipment") , it would most probably do not contain a pre-printed of (On Board) wording and in this case the indication that the goods have been shipped on board a named vess at the port of loading stated in the credit must be done by an on board notation indicats the date on which the goods have been shipped on board in which case the date stated in the on board notation will be deemed to be the date of shipment.

I hope that I have answared your question properly.

Best Regards,
Osama Ibrahim.
