The credit is silent on the notify party in the BL. Is it acceptable if the BL shows the notify party as the applicant?

Yes, this is acceptable.
The notify party is merely the party to be contacted when the goods arrive at the port of discharge.
UCP does not contain any direct provision in relation to the notify party.

If the credit is silent on the notify party, any notify party/ies will be acceptable, including the applicant. This highlights the need for the credit to be correctly and completely drafted by the issuing bank.

If the LC is silent on the notify party (NP), the BL can be blank in the NP box or the shipper simply inserts any name in this box. This is not a discrepancy.
By the way a NP is not a party of the contract of carriage as evidenced by the BL. Hence its name is called "notify party", to highlight that it is "a party to be notified" on arrival of the goods but not a party to the contract of carriage.
I have given many lectures on BL and LC in Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Johor Bahru. Have the enquirers been to any of my workshops in the past?

according to UCP 500, article 23, it does not require that notify party on B/L must be shown. therefore, the B/L is acceptable
