Dear Sir,
We would like have the following point
clarified.
As per INCOTERMS 2000,"FOB" is to be
used only for transport by sea or inland
waterway.What would be the corresponding
incoterm for shipment by air.

My initial reaction, without liability/responsibility, is:

FCA.

Incoterms 2000 do not distinguish between FAS & FOB for non-vessel despatch. If loading is not taking place at the seller’s premises, but the intention is that the seller is responsible for loading, one would imagine it would need to be covered in the underlying contract (i.e. between seller & buyer). I would not anticipate any need for the applicant to concern themselves with this in the credit, if they are specifying presentation of a transport document.

There is no direct equivalent to FOB for other modes of transport, but as Jeremy suggested, the nearest equivalent is FCA (named place). For example, the point of delivery is fixed in FOB, but variable in FCA.
