Inspection Certificate with SGS stamp on it

Post by RashidHasan » Thu Feb 01, 2007 12:00 am

We would appreciate the forum's opinion on the following scenario:

LC condition states: SGS Inspection Certificate required.

The inspection certificate presented with the documents is as follows.

The inspection certificate submitted is on the letterhead of another inspection agency, but at the bottom of the certificate there are two small round stamps of "SGS", one appearing to be a regular SGS stamp, the other contains the information ISO 9001 as well as the name of SGS and an initial.

Would the forum consider, that the terms of the letter of credit have been met?

Review R448-200/01, ISBP art.25 39 and 42.
Could or could not be considered being issued by the company stated on letterhead and certified/visaed by SGS ?!
I would not accept such a document.

I wouldn't accept the doc as it does not evidence compliance with the requirement " issued by SGS"

Doriana,

What would count for me is on whose behalf the certificate has apparently been signed. To consider it an ‘SGS Inspection Certificate’, i.e. one issued by SGS, I believe it needs to be signed for or on behalf of SGS. I infer that the certificate is only signed for or on behalf of the other inspection agency. If so, I would not consider it complying.

I agree with Jeremy. The document is not compliant. The other company should at least states its position vis à vis SGS
