Dear members of this forum,

Yesterday I had an e-mail that I want to share with you, because it reminded me why I am doing what I am doing. The background for the e-mail is actually a sad one: A very dear friend to me – and I know to many in this forum as well – passed away last week: Ravi Mehta who was the energetic founder and editor of LC VIEWS.

Anyway the e-mail goes:

QUOTE

Subject: about the big miss of Mr. Ravi Mehta

Dear Kim,

I am XXX from Turkey who is an international division officer in a multinational bank's small city branch. Just an officer who is far away from aristocracy who is far away from the lodges of ICC Paris or far away from the conferences in Dubai on ICC 600...

Dear Kim, Mr. Ravi Mehta was really a good teacher on documentary credits who always carried out the issue to the public. He was a bridge to high level articles for making us to understand and he was all behind us even we were so far away from the soul of D/Cs. Mr. Ravi Mehta made so many good things to the youth of bankers, he was all with us instead of staying behind the closed doors with the elites...

Sincerely yours,

UNQUOTE

This posting and the e-mail is honoring the memory of Ravi Mehta who I personally will miss so much, but I really found the e-mail striking: I have the extreme privilege to discuss D/C issues with professionals like you from every part of the world, but the vast majority working with documentary credits may not have that privilege, but are still the ones to deal with the customers advising them of rules and practices – and there may indeed be very far from “Turkey mainland” to “ICC Paris”. Ravi Mehta worked hard and dedicated shorten that distance. From that perspective I think that Ravi Mehta was a true role model.

Best regards
Kim
