If L/C do not indicate if Freight forwarder’s B/L is allowed or not, can I accept this B/L signed by forwarder , as per article 14(L) it is acceptable
Thanks for your comments

Dear Peter, I don' t think you can accept a bill of lading signed by a forwarder. In order to comply, the bill of lading must be signed as per the relevant transport document article.

Article 14l refers to the issuer only. But your question refers to the signer. So, this sub-article is not applicable to your question.

Peter

It depends on how the forwarder signs :

If he signs "as agent for the carrier XX"
or "as carrier", and all the other requirements of Art 20 are met, there should not be any problem

One problem is the 'mis-use' of the term 'forwarder's bill of lading'. To me if a BL is signed as Judith describes it is simply NOT a 'forwarder's bill of lading' even if it is indicated that the agent / carrier also acts as a forwarder.
