What kind of BL should be presented if the DC asks specifica

This is a query inspired by Laurence's input in this "ICC Opinions" section.

Your opinions will depend very much on how your interpret a "CLEANED" BL.

T.O. Lee,

Laurence’a previous input was correct. It is considered bad practice when DC’s are issued requiring a clear notation of “clean on board”. (ICC pub. No. 511, UCP 500 & 400 Compared, p. 91). However, I have not heard of a “cleaned” B/L. A B/L could be either “clean” or “unclean” (ICC Pub. No. 473, Clean Transport Documents).

Dimitri,

We are afraid that from your comments, you appear to have tuned in the wrong channel. We have never said that Laurence's inputs are not correct. We only comment that the word “clean” is not necessary to describe a BL required under a DC. We also said that our new query on a “cleaned” BL was inspired by Laurence’s inputs.

Of course members should know and it is also very clear that there is no such term as “cleaned BL” being used in the ISBP.

What we are trying to say is that if, and only if, one day you see this term in one inbound DC in your workplace, what are you going to advise your beneficiary customer to present, if the applicant does not agree to apply for any amendment.

To be precise, this is an interesting mental exercise to polish our creative minds. So don’t get too academic about it and try to find this term in the UCP or the ISBP. You will not be able to get it. If your mind drifts beyond UCP, but not totally detached from the UCP, then it may lead you to many interesting thoughts.
