FAS / FREE OUT

Post by NigelHolt » Thu Jun 19, 2008 1:00 am

A BL on which I have been asked to opine states on it 'FAS / FREE OUT'.

The contract between the buyer & seller is CIF and therefore the BL also states 'freight paid'.

While I think I can understand the point of 'FREE OUT' being on a freight paid BL I do not understand the reason for 'FAS' also being there, as I assume it stands for 'free alongside ship' which is an Incoterterm.

Can anyone please shed light on the reason for this? Thanks in advance.
