Oil marketing companies (OMCs) in Tanzania have been advised to open letters of credit (L/Cs) on time to allow for the timely discharge of oil products at a newly commissioned port facility.
The Single Point Mooring (SPM) at the port of Dar es Salaam became operational over the weekend of 17-18 November.
L/C confirmations
Supply manager for Addax Energy SA East Africa, Julien Seddik, issued the advice in a statement over the same weekend and said that if OMC's fail to open L/Cs in time, there would be delays in the discharge of fuel at the SPM.
As a supplier, Addax would not be in a position to release oil before L/Cs had been confirmed he said.
Addax tender
The SPM facility allows for far bigger oil shipments to be discharged at the port of Dar es Salaam than has hitherto been possible.
Tanzania has awarded a lucrative tender to Addax to supply oil to the country for certain periods over the next few weeks.
