The Trade Bank of Iraq (TBI), which provides the bulk of the country's letters of credit (L/Cs), has continued work uninterrupted, despite the attack by suicide bombers last month that threatened to destroy the bank.

On 20 June, the bombing of TBI's headquarters in Baghdad cost the lives of five guards and wounded several others, including passers by.

Normal day

According to a TBI employee, the bank was up and running on 21 June, when bank employees worked "a normal working day."

The employee says there were no substantial interruptions on that day, during which L/Cs were processed and the bank was able to conduct transfers and transactions.

Expansion plans

The bank, which now has correspondent relations with more than 200 banks worldwide, says it is aiming to expand its business still more.

The bank has also been increasing the amount of business it writes with export credit agencies worldwide.
