Letters of credit (L/Cs) are to feature in a financing package allowing Indonesia to buy fighter jets from Russia.

Indonesia has already taken delivery of three Russian fighters and expects to have six in service by 2010.

First deliveries

So far, Indonesia has taken delivery of three Su-30MK2 fighters, all of which passed test flights during January 2009.

These three planes were part of a six aircraft deal concluded in August 2007 in Russia.

L/C requirement

The manufacturers, Russia's Sukhoi Aviation Corporation, will deliver three Russian Su-27SKM fighters to Indonesia later this year.

Delivery dates for these planes will be agreed with the manufacturers when the Indonesian Finance Ministry issues an L/C to the Russian Defence Ministry.
