Commercial Bank of Sri Lanka has become one of the latest banks to offer its customers trade finance and other banking services over the Internet.

The bank was the first Sri Lankan bank to offer online services to corporate customers in 1997 through an intranet. It has now able to provide a similar facility via the Internet to customers of all its 82 branches.

Services available online include funds transfers, wire payments, account information and letters of credit. Digital signatures are not valid in Sri Lankan law, which may compromise the usefulness of the new facility in international trade.
